When Something Keeps You from Reaching Out

Understand What’s Holding You Back

Reaching out for help with substance abuse can feel daunting. Many people hesitate due to fears of judgment, uncertainty about their situation, or concerns about what happens next.

Common thoughts that may prevent you from calling include:

  • “I don’t really know what this support line is all about.”
  • “I don’t know who’s on the other end of the line.”
  • “I’m okay” (even when you’re not).
  • “I can handle this on my own.”
  • “I’m ashamed to talk about what I’m going through.”
  • “What if my situation gets shared with others?”
  • “What if I don’t like the options presented to me?”

These feelings are completely normal. Many people face similar fears before taking the crucial first step toward seeking help. You don’t have to navigate this alone.

Taking the first step can lead to the support and resources you need. Call 1-800-923-4357.
